ed monahanAnyone remember how to get the original hood struts off? I realize you have to remove the upper half first, (that is the problem), then rotate the bottom part and it comes right off. It is outside and I can't see the upper part well enough to figure it out. I have done it several times but that was about 20 years ago. Thanks for any tip.
Stray CatI don't know. Mine are in the air. But I believe there is a proper way to put them back on as well Ed. One end must be put on first?

John

garysssEd I think it has a metal clip you have to slide down or pop off, I can't remember either. Do you have the replacement in front of you, that might give you a hint how it works.
ALLEY CATClose Gary,,, there is a plastic cover on one end that you slide UP to expose the ball...use your hand palm to hit the strut away at that point to release it, then same hand procedure to push off the other end.

Best to support the hood while changing out hood struts to prevent hood from cracking your head if it falls.

Install new strut... 3 minute job

ed monahanSolved it. I couldn't see it looking up toward the sun. There is a plastic cap on the upper end, toward the engine side. Put a tiny screw driver in, under the cap, which has four tabs. Slides out easily if you can see what you are doing. Then push the strut toward the engine and the top half comes off. The bottom half has the sliding "LID". Push that up and rotate the entire strut, there is a slot so it slides off. If only I had the correct strut to put back on. They sold me a diff. brand that was the same, (except it isn't) This one doesn't have a slot so the lower portion can't rotate or elevate to make it to the correct angle. Now I have something to do tomorrow. lol

I bought Lee Schaefer's Woodward yesterday. Several very small things to do to make it ready to roll.

garysssCongrats on getting another Prowler Ed. I can't believe Sandy authorized this purchase. LOL
ed monahanSshhh. She doesn't know and hopefully doesn't bother to balance her checkbook for awhile. I sold the 97 about 6 weeks ago. Body shop owner if I was ready to sell and a couple weeks later I sold it to him.

Stray CatSo, how many do you have, now ? I can not keep track!

John

ed monahanMe either. A guy from Troy came down to look at the Woodward. I told Sue consider it sold, him or me. He said he wanted to think about it. I told him he had a couple of days to decide, same price, but it would be in Cincy. He decided I should have it since Sue told him we should have it. Lol. He is interested in my other ones so he can come look at the 99 Red or the highly modified Orange. REAL ROD bumpers, lambo doors etc. No biggie, either way. Back to four. Candy is staying for sure.
garysssHow close are you and John? You two need to buy a nursing home, old Wal-Mart store or warehouse somewhere in between. 🏢🏬🏨🗻🏭🏰
ed monahanThe bottom has to go on first. You put it on 180 degrees from where you then turn it. There is a notch or cut-out so it can sit flat when the hood is closed.

Chicken Man, John is probably about 50 to 60 miles up I-75. I don't know his exact whereabouts since he is in the Witness Protection Program. We are off exit 10 heading north and when heading south we can get off at 15 or 16, I don't know the number. Dayton is in the 50s, I think. A nursing home is in my future and not too distant, probably. lol

Stray CatGee Ed, Thanks for blowing my cover. Now I'm really going to have to watch my back. And don't worry, I'll come visit you in the Nursing home. Or maybe you will be visiting me. We will see.....

John

If that is the case, Larry is sure to take good care of you when you check in. The monthly costs may be somewhat expensive since the other residents that occupy the building need regular maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations etc...

Stray CatHaha...
